The 2024 golf season came to an end with invitational tournaments at Wayne and Ponca and with district play on Monday, May 13, at Hartington.

Wakefield Invitational Wayne Country Club was the host course for the playing of the Wakefield invitational this year. Eight teams and 40 players comprised the field.

Freshman Kooper Gubbels enjoyed another good day, shooting rounds of 43-45 for an 88 total and a ninth-place finish. Baylen Guenther carded a round of 93 and finished in 13th place.

Ponca claimed another team title on the season, shooting 311 and claimed the top three individual spots.

Ponca Invitational Highland Oaks CC played host to the Ponca invite. Two of the top class C teams in the state were in the field.

Senior Baylen Guenther earned the ninth-place medal with a score of 88. Baylen’s 38 on the front nine was his career 9 hole best. Kooper Gubbels closed out the regular season winning yet another medal with a 91 good for 15th place.

The Class D district tournament was hosted by Hartington on Monday, May 13. Each district is composed of 15 Class D teams.

After a couple weeks of really solid play, the Tiger golfers had their struggles on this really tight lined course. Baylen Guenther finished his career with a 96 and Kooper Gubbels finished his freshman season with a 98.

“Overall it was a good season,” commented Coach Randy Jochum. Baylen medaled five times, while Kooper medaled three times and showed improve ments in many aspects of their game. Baylen enjoyed a nice four-year career, including a trip to the 2023 state tourney.

“Kooper will enjoy real success in the years to come,” added Coach Jochum. “Our girl players improved their skills and knowledge of the game a good deal while enjoying the learning of a lifetime sport.”
