The 2024 Neligh-Oakdale Nate Metschke Honor Band was held Saturday, April 27. Osmond had the biggest crew in nine years with 26 students attending: 16 in the fifth grade and 10 in the sixth grade.
“What more could you ask for on a Saturday at the end of April?!” said Osmond music director Christalinn Ginn. “Thank you, parents, for supporting your kids and encouraging them to be a part of this. My heart swelled with Tiger pride listening to them perform.”
'The Metschke March' by Nolan Schmit was premiered during the event. “The Metschke March” was composed by Nolan Schmit, former Orchard music teacher and current “Voice of the Cornhusker Marching Band.”
It was written in honor of Nate Metschke, a Chambers native and past music teacher at Neligh-Oakdale who died in 2018 after his second bout of cancer. The song was commissioned by a consortium of 40 band directors, and was performed by the sixth grade honor band.
