WAUSA — Gary Fuelberth, 87, Wausa, died April 28, 2024, at the St. Elizabeth Regional Burn and Wound Care Center, Lincoln.
Funeral services May 3 at Evangelical Covenant Church, Wausa. Pastor Casey Holencik officiated, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wausa.
Gary took his final tractor ride from the church to the cemetery. All were welcome to follow the procession.
Brockhaus Funeral Home, Wausa, was in charge of arrangements.
Gary J. Fuelberth was born Jan. 16, 1937, at Wausa, to Lloyd and Eunice (Luck) Fuelberth. He grew up on the family farm in Cedar County, where he lived and farmed most of his life. Gary attended school at Rural District No.96 and later went to Wausa High School, where he graduated in 1955. He was confirmed in the Covenant Church, Wausa, where he has attended most of his life.
Gary spent a year in San Diego, Calif., working at the Convair Aircraft Plant.He farmed with his dad and continued doing so after his dad passedaway. He drove truck for Wausa Motors and also shelled corn for area neighbors. Gary shared his love of the farm with his nieces and nephews. His nephews are continuing to farm the land as third-generation farmers.
Gary enjoyed his family and liked to spend time with them. Trail rides, camping and kayaking, and going to Ponca State Park were some of his favorites.He enjoyed attending his great-nieces and nephews’ school activities.
Gary was a Shriner, a Mason and a member of the Rural Fire Board of Wausa. Gary is survived by his sisters, Lois (Mert) Carlson, Wausa, and Marcia Johnson, Omaha; nephews, Dan (Shelly) Story and Jon (Lisa) Story; nieces, Christine Story, Elizabeth Eskey, Teresa (Brian) Zimmerman and Debbie Juliot; and many great-nieces and nephews, along with several great-great-niecesand nephews.
He is remembered by many friends and neighbors. Gary was preceded in death by his parents,Lloyd and Eunice; niece, Denise Johnson; nephew, Paul Story; and great-nephew, Joshua Story.
