Pierce County Visitors Bureau awards grants

PIERCE – The Pierce County Visitors Bureau meeting on Thursday, April 4, was called to order by Chairman Robert Wehrer at 3 p.m. at the Pierce County Courthouse. Roll call was taken with members Kelly Hodson, Robert Wehrer, and Jean Bierschenk present. Julie Newman and Rick Higgins were absent. Representatives from the Pierce Historical Society, Pierce Threshing Bee and Norfolk Area Visitor’s Bureau were also in attendance.

PIERCE — The Pierce County Visitors Bureau meeting on Thursday, April 4, was called to order by Chairman Robert Wehrer at 3 p.m. at the Pierce County Courthouse. Roll call was taken with members Kelly Hodson, Robert Wehrer, and Jean Bierschenk present. Julie Newman and Rick Higgins were absent. Representatives from the Pierce Historical Society, Pierce Threshing Bee and Norfolk Area Visitor’s Bureau were also in attendance.

The treasurer reported that there was $5,252 in the Visitor Improvement Fund and $7,070 available in the Visitor Promo Fund. Receipts were received from grants previously given from Hadar Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Plainview Klown Museum, Pierce County Agricultural Society, Pierce Historical Society, Pierce Live Nativity, Pierce Chamber Christmas Festival, Eden Valley Cemetery, Growing Small Pod Cast and Osmond Orchard.

The Norfolk Area Visitors Bureau representatives presented brochures about what the bureau hands out regarding Pierce County and explained their process.

The following grant applications were presented and approved to be paid as recorded: Brandon Gerdes Memorial Founda- tion, Fundraiser, $300 (promo) - pend ing receipts from previous year.

The Norfolk Area Visitors Bureau (Visit Norfolk), Pierce County promotion, $1,500 (promo)

Village of Hadar, Richard Switzer Memorial Horseshoe Tournament, $300 (promo)

Osmond Methodist Mens Group, Music in the Park, $500 (promo) Hadar Fire Department, Annual BBQ, $450, (promo)

Pierce County Agricultural Society, Pierce County Fair, $750 (promo) Pierce Lions Club, Pierce Lions Club Charity Golf Classic, $500 (promo)

Pierce Old time Threshers Bee, Threshing Bee September 14 and 15, 2024, $500 (promo)

Pierce Historical Society, overhead doors, $1,000 (improvement) Lambrecht Cemetery Association, front fencing, $500 (improvement) Community HOME Team Osmond, electrical upgrade Osmond Summerfest and Volleyball courts, $1,000 (improvements); Community HOME Team Osmond, OsmondAlumni Street Dance and Ganseboom Firework Show, $1,000 (promo) Osmond Park Board, picnic tables (regular and wheelchair accessible), $1,000 (improvement); Osmond Park Board, diggers for poolside sandbox, $250 (improvement) Total approved Promotions: $5,800 Total approved Improvements: $4,750 Pfanny’s Farm will be contacted by Kelly Hodson to see if they will be willing to do the next Growing Small Town Nebraska Pod Cast for Pierce County.

The meeting was adjourned at 4 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3, at 3 p.m. at Pierce County Courthouse.
