(By FFA Advisor Jessica Evans) LINCOLN — More than 800 students were awarded the Nebraska State FFA Degree at the 96th annual Nebraska FFA State Convention held April 3-5 in Lincoln. The State FFA Degree is the highest degree bestowed by the Nebraska FFA. In total, 832 students received the degree. Among them was Cody Gansebom from the Osmond FFA Chapter.
The Nebraska State FFA Degree recognizes FFA members who have received the Chapter degree, been active FFA members for at least two years, completed at least four semesters of agricultural science at or above the ninth-grade level, maintained a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program, demonstrated their leadership skills, and have shown a commitment to the FFA through involvement at the chapter level and above.
Gansebom plans to pursue his American FFA Degree, the highest degree one can earn in The National FFA Organization. The American Degree is bestowed upon a select group of members.
To be eligible, FFA members must have earned at least $10,000 or earned at least $2,000 and worked at least 2,250 hours outside of class time through a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program in which they own their own business, hold a professional position as an employee, or conduct research.
Recipients must also complete 50 hours of community service and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and civic involvement through completion of a long list of FFA and community activities. Less than one percent of FFA members achieve the American FFA Degree.
We wish the best of luck to Cody in this pursuit.
